DR CORNÉL STEYN

Dr Cornél Steyn is a General Surgeon with empathy and a passion for helping people.

While growing up in Bloemfontein, she matriculated Eunice High School and graduated with an MBChB degree from the University of the Free State (UFS) in 2012.

After her Internship, Dr Steyn went to Kimberley in 2015 to complete her Community Service year.

She gained valuable experience in the Kimberley Hospital Cardiothoracic Unit during this time. After that, she decided to stay on as a Medical Officer at the Cardiothoracic, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Burns Units. It was during this period that she became interested in surgery.

While pursuing her career in surgery, she served on the Registrar Representative Council as the Representative for the UFS Surgical Registrars. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she volunteered to serve in the COVID-19 Response Team with the Free State Department of Health, performing critical frontline work.

In addition, she has made numerous academic contributions to multiple global research studies, which were published in international journals. She obtained her MMed (Surgery) degree at UFS in 2023 and was admitted as a Fellow in the College of Surgeons (FCS) in the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa.
